Parent Counselling
Supporting Parents Through Parenting, Stress, and Life’s Challenges
Parenting can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences—but it can also feel overwhelming, isolating, and exhausting. Many parents experience stress, burnout, or uncertainty, particularly when navigating trauma, bereavement, health challenges, or caring for children with additional needs.
I work with parents across all stages of the parenting journey—from preconception and pregnancy, through the transition into parenthood (matrescence), to later stages of family life. I also support bereaved parents and those caring for children with SEND or complex medical needs.
How Therapy Can Help
In therapy, we create a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore your experiences, understand your emotions, and develop strategies to feel more confident, connected, and resilient. Together, we focus on supporting your wellbeing as a parent, reflecting on your identity beyond the parenting role, and improving communication and relationships within your family.
I work with parents navigating challenges such as:
-
Parental stress, overwhelm, or burnout
-
Trauma (past or recent) that affects your parenting
-
Bereavement or grief as a parent or caregiver
-
Complex co-parenting dynamics
-
Adjustment to parenting roles, including caring for children with SEND or solo parenting
-
Struggles with parental self-efficacy, confidence, or guilt
-
A need for greater self-compassion and emotional regulation
-
Feeling emotionally “stuck,” reactive, or disconnected
Therapy provides a space to process these challenges, build self-compassion, strengthen your confidence as a parent, and develop practical strategies that support both your emotional wellbeing and your relationship with your children.
My Therapeutic Approach
At the heart of my work is Person-Centred and Experiential therapy. I believe that parents grow and heal most effectively when they feel truly seen, heard, and accepted. The relational foundation — built on empathy, authenticity, and non-judgement — creates a safe space to explore the emotions, identity shifts, and challenges that come with parenting. Experiential techniques allow us to engage with emotions in the moment, helping parents connect with and process feelings that may be difficult to articulate.
From this Person-Centred and Experiential base, I assimilate techniques from other evidence-informed approaches to support your goals as a parent. These include:
-
Narrative Therapy, which helps you make sense of your experiences and re-author your parenting story after challenge, loss, or transition
-
Third-wave approaches such as ACT and CFT, which support emotional regulation, self-compassion, and resilience
-
CBT elements, applied selectively to offer practical coping strategies when helpful
This approach allows therapy to be flexible and responsive, tailored to your individual needs and experiences. Techniques are integrated to enhance self-understanding, confidence, and wellbeing, while always keeping the relational connection central.
Therapy with me focuses on you — your identity, coping strategies, and emotional wellbeing — rather than directly targeting your child’s behaviour. By supporting your own mental health and self-efficacy, you are better able to navigate the challenges of parenting and foster more connected, resilient relationships with your children.

Let’s Start With a Conversation
Starting therapy begins with a simple step: reaching out. You can share a little about yourself, your goals, or the challenges you’re facing. From there, we’ll schedule a brief, 15-minute consultation—completely free—so we can meet, get to know each other, and see if working together feels like the right fit.
This conversation is low-pressure and designed to help you feel comfortable and informed before committing to a session. Therapy moves at your pace, and this first step is just about connecting and exploring what support might look like for you.
